Better Cabinetry from the Inside Out

Crystal Cabinets Takes Another Step Toward Cleaner, Healthier Homes
We are thrilled to announce that all plywood cabinet boxwork is now NAF (No-added Formaldehyde). NAF surpasses our previous NAUF (No-added Urea-Formaldehyde) rating, taking our dedication to sustainability and indoor air quality to the next level.

To help better understand what this means—and why it matters—we’ve put together helpful FAQs covering common questions about NAF and the benefits of low-emission cabinetry.

What is Formaldehyde?
Formaldehyde is a VOC (volatile organic compound) that occurs naturally in fruits and vegetables, wood, and the human body. It is also widely used in manufacturing and various products, like building materials, adhesives, and preservatives.

What is Urea Formaldehyde?
Urea-formaldehyde is a commonly used synthetic resin in composite wood products.

What is the difference between NAF and NAUF?

  • NAF (No Added Formaldehyde) means that no formaldehyde-based resins are used in the product’s construction. This is the most stringent standard for formaldehyde emissions.
  • NAUF (No Added Urea-Formaldehyde) specifically mean that urea-formaldehyde is not used, but other types of formaldehyde resins may still be present.

Why is NAF Plywood better for indoor air quality?
Because NAF completely removes formaldehyde from the manufacturing process, it offers the best option for reducing potential indoor air quality concerns.

Does NAF Plywood affect the look, performance, or durability of the cabinets?
Not at all—NAF Plywood maintains the same high-quality appearance and durability.

Is there an additional cost for for Crystal’s NAF Plywood boxwork?
There could be costs associated to a consumer trying to price plywood vs. NAF Plywood.

Is NAF Plywood offered in all cabinet lines?
Yes, you can get NAF Plywood in every cabinet line we offer.

How can I tell if my cabinet order includes NAF boxwork?
Beginning Spring 2025 all orders with plywood box construction will be NAF.
