What To Expect With Painted Cabinets

With the increased popularity of painted cabinets, we want to share what to expect with painted cabinetry and how to properly care for them.

Regular Cleaning…

Any product used regularly will require cleaning, so will your cabinets. The myth that painted cabinets get dirtier than a stained cabinet is just that, a myth. The truth is, stained cabinets only conceal messes because they are not solid colors like paint.

We recommend cleaning with a clean, soft cloth dampened with a mixture of mild dish washing liquid and water. The amount of cleaning required will depend on the amount of use and type of use. For additional information visit our cleaning page.

Not Waterproof…

Our paints are some of the best in the industry. But, that does not make our cabinets waterproof. We get it; spills and drips are going to happen. When they happen, be sure they are wiped clean and dried right away to avoid damage or staining.

Pay special attention to locations around water such as sinks, dishwashers, coffee makers and instant pots. Keeping these areas dry is crucial. To learn more about other areas that require special attention, click here.

Hairline Cracks Occur…

With seasonal changes in temperature and humidity, wood components expand and contract. This natural occurence creates small lines in the finish, referred to as “hairline cracks.” These lines only appear on the surface and are not a structural concern.

Don’t just take our word, here is a construction experts write-up on this topic:  https://www.thisoldhouse.com/ask-toh/cabinet-paint-cracks

Chips And Scratches…

If car paint can chip so can cabinet paint. Even with our high-quality finish, cabinets may get chipped or scratched. Chips and scratches can happen during installation or over time from items like silverware, jewelry and even fingernails.

When this occurs, the best thing to do is contact your dealer regarding touch-up options. Proper touch-up helps keep your cabinets looking and performing their best.
